My Knowledge And Understanding Of The Holy Spirit
My knowledge and understanding of the Holy Spirit began later than would be expected for someone who was raised in the church since birth. I grew up in a tradition that, due to fears over the exaltation of emotionality in some charismatic movements, responded by practically ignoring the third part of the Trinity. While I knew the three names that made up the Trinity, the Holy Spirit was some forgotten concept that languished because revealing it might lead to excess. In some ways, I think that fear is a testament to the incredible power dwelling in the Spirit. However, to ignore it completely is an untenable position. While the Spirit has historically struggled to be accepted as a full person within the Trinity, I firmly believe, as doâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I believe that this understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit provides a fuller and more theologically consistent view of the work of the Spirit. Before I can progress on this point, I must first provide demonstrate the foundation of my beliefs in the Spirit and its gifts. Belief in the Holy Spirit is one of the defining traits of Christianity ; however defining such an entity comprehensively and succinctly is difficult. One definition, merely to begin the discourse, can be found in the The Anchor Bible Dictionary. There, the Holy Spirit is defined as the manifestations of divine presence and power perceptible especially in prophetic inspiration. This definition is simplistic and laden with theological assumptions which, but it provides a starting point in this discussion. One of the primary components that initially struck me from this definition is the emphasis on the role of the Spirit in prophecy and inspiration. ICETT, with the support and cooperation of its own national and local governments, industry, and academe, utilizes Japans collected industrial technologies and administrative measures on environmental conservation. It applies these to implement programs and projects on the same together with participating countries. The aim is to enhance ââ¬Å"greeningâ⬠of regional environments and prevent their destruction overseas, thus achieving conservation globally. Together with ICETT, the Philippines as participating country is thus implementing ââ¬Å"Green Framework of Innovative Strategy on Sustainable Consumption and Productivityâ⬠or GFIS, a five-year project of DOST-ITDI through its program on Cleaner Production. GFIS aims to: 1. Establish model industrial-eco barangays, towns and communities; 2. These naturally occurring gases, notably carbon dioxide and water vapor, are called greenhouse gases. DOST-PTRI turned difficult to remove stains from these husks into a textile dye called coconut pink. They found out that young coconut husk extract imparts red to maroon color on silk, pina-seda and pina while it produces an old rose color on cotton. They also established colorfastness, laundering and light ratings of the dyed materials and found these to be satisfactory for all these types. Coconut husksââ¬â¢ potential to impart red color comes as a necessary indulgence for textile manufacturers who use in great quantities the non-colorfast red dye from sibukao (Caesalpinnia sappan). The textile instituteââ¬â¢s research study revealed that young coconut husks sourced from different locations produce varying shades of red. This required thus hue and color tint matching capabilities and adjustments in the dyeing parameters. In addition, DOST-PTRI found that coconuts from high elevations yield almost no color compared with coconuts from coastals and low- lying areas. This new use for young coconut husks holds promise for additional income for farmers. Likewise, the new techniqueââ¬â¢s requirement for compulsory chopping of husks before extraction facilitates rapid decomposition. This reduces the risk of clogging of waterways and drainage systems along coconut processing villages. Incidentally, this emerging natural dye industry runs complimentary to the National Coconut Agenda as it does not compete with the food and health uses of coconut. Likewise, participants proposed the inclusion of satellite development and other related space technology applications in the school curriculum and strengthening the coordinative functions of the current Science and Technology Coordinating Council ââ¬â Committee on Space Technology Applications. à µ DOST scholar grad finds 900 BLACK HOLES in the sky A Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) scholar-graduate is now making waves in the international astronomical world after leading a team that discovered the largest number of super massive black holes in the centers of galaxies in the universe. Reinabelle Reyes, a PhD student at Princeton University and a BS Physics summa cum laude graduate at the Ateneo de Manila University in 2005, led a team of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) scientists that discovered a large number of hidden quasars that are shrouded in light-absorbing dust and gas. According to Reyes, her team found around 900 hidden quasars, which is by far the largest sample ever found. We found that hidden quasars make up at least half of the quasars in the nearby universe, implying that most of the powerful black holes in our neighborhood had previously been unrecognized, she said. She added their discovery shows that powerful black holes are more common in the last eight billion years of cosmic history than had previously been thought and that the relative numbers of hidden compared to normal quasars show how the appearance of dust and gas determine the presence of a hidden quasar. The large number of hidden quasars we discovered implies that most of the light emitted by quasars is actually obscured. Moreover, because the light from these hidden quasars previously had been unaccounted for, black holes turn out to be more efficient in converting the energy of in-falling matter into light than we had thought, she said. The research team presented its discove ry last January 9 at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Austin, Texas, and has submitted a paper describing the research for publication in the Astronomical Journal. Reyes said their project is the culmination of the graduate thesis work of her co-author, Nadia Zakamska, a long-term postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study, under the supervision of Princeton professor Michael Strauss. Pricking The Riches Conscience Rhetorical Analysis Courtland Milloy, an African American columnist for the Washington Post, examines the effects inadequate educational facilities have on children. His article, Young Minds Injured by Our Inattention, is focused towards the ethnically and socially diverse adults of the Washington area. Milloys intention in speaking is to explore the problems society has with its educational system. Although effectively appealing to emotions and values, Milloy lacks strong arguments of character and fact to convince the diverse community that the absence of recreational and educational facilities effect children and lead them to a life of violence. Milloy draws his audiences attentions by retelling a tragic story of a 1st grader named Maurice getting run over in a school zone. He describes the driver as barreling through...and not even slowing down after striking the boy who suffered serious head injuries. Milloys story wins sympathy from the readers. The boy was just beginning to learn the complexities of life when he was forced to start all over again because of a reckless driver. Fatal injuries, especially those effecting children, touch the hearts of most adults. Parents of any social status wonder is this could ever happen to their kids and how devastating an event like this would be. In response to the young boys accident, volunteers sympathized fore the inner city school and built a playground to replace the concrete slab the kids used to play on. Most intended readers can relate to not having play grounds for their kids to enjoy. Parents almost always want nice facilities for their kids to play on whether it be a stick with a ball attached, a local park, a school playground, or an extravagant sports court in their back yard, depending on social class. Sympathy extends to children who are deprived of recreational facilities due to weak funding in the educational system. Milloy makes the readers wonder why certain schools do not live up to the standards of others in nearby towns. Although a play ground was built for this school, Maurice may never be able to play on it because he must learn how to walk, talk, and eat all over again. People take forgranted the daily rituals of life and if put in the shoes of a parent of this boy, one would realize how tragic this accident was and even the effects the education system has. Milloys arguments of emotions appeals to the readers, but he does not present authority to support his claim. Milloy does not persuade his readers that he is a man capable of determining if weak school facilities do in fact effect children. By merely reading this article, one can not tell if Milloy is qualified to state such a claim. He does not establish ethos and does not come across as knowledgeable of the situation. He is solely basing his reasoning on this hit and run incident which does not address the whole problem facing society today. Milloy does not use arguments of character to support his claim but discreetly describes the lacking values that society has to support the effect weak educational and recreational facilities has on children. He goes on to explain that the classmates who watched in horror as the car hit Maurice and then sped away, sustained another kind of wound, one that comes with the realization that their young lives dont amount to much. These kids are living in an environment that does not promote healthy morals and values. This might persuade the reader that the children realize that one day they might be a person who steals or even is the driver of a hit and run. The kids think their life is normal, and if they do not amount to much, that it is just life. By appealing to the casual reader, Milloy explains that the wealthy people dislike the low income schools. He describes how there is not a lot of sympathy for the poor and redistributing school resources... generate[s] intense bitterness among many well to do parents. The author clearly is pointing out that the values of this area do not concentrate on children and their futures. By focusing on this one problem on might note that this
